HOME GROWERS PROJECT FOR LEARNERS

ProVest through its subsidiary Platchro joined millions of corporations across the country and globe in celebrating centenary of Nelson Mandela on the 18 July. Platchro spent the day with learners of Kroondal Primary School also known as Tirelong Primary School in Rustenburg. They implemented an initiative called “Home Growers Project” where they taught and empowered them to grow their own vegetables at home and in the school vegetable garden.

The rationale for the project is to enable learners to plant and provide for themselves and their families the much needed nutrition and the schools feeding programme. Once Learners were encourage to hold entrepreneurs day where they can swop or sell their surplus vegetables thus acquiring entrepreneurial skills.

Each learner was supplied with a startup kit comprising of the following:

  • A Platchro growers hat
  • A Home Growers guide
  • A packet of seeds
  • 10 loose growing bags
  • A bundle of 10 spinach plants

The learners were taken through the process of planting vegetables as indicated in the manual and they will continue to take care of the gardens assisted by the school gardener. The occasion was attend by staff from Platchro Corporate office.
